HIS PROFILE Lion Henry joined the Vancouver Chinatown Lions Club in 1998. His first appointment was Ticket Chairman of the Clubˇ¦s Medal of Merit Award Dinner (a fund raising event) attended by over 500 guests. His performance and dedication was recognized by the Club, awarding him Lion of the Year 1998/1999. He was 100% Secretary in 1999/2000 and the Club attained its first ever Club Efficiency Award of District 19A. He was 100% President in 2002/2003. Simultaneously, he was the Public Relations Chairman for District 19A. In 2003, he received two extension Awards, the International Presidentˇ¦s Certificate of Appreciation as well as the Melvin Jones Fellowship. He was 100% Zone Chairman in 2003/2004 and received the MD19 Runner-up of Zone Chairperson Efficiency Award (of 9 clubs or more). During that year, all of the 10 Secretaries of 10 existing Lions Clubs received 100% Secretary Awards, and 7 Presidents received the Presidentsˇ¦ Excellence Awards. Adding excitement to the year, the Vancouver Templeton New Century Lions Club and the Vancouver Korean Lions Club were chartered, both of which are now high performing Lions Clubs. He received the International Presidentˇ¦s Leadership Medal. He served as Chairman of the Constitution and By-Laws Committee of MD19 as well as our District 19A in 2005/2006. He transferred to Vancouver Cathay Lions Club in 2005. He was a marine contractor and container operator in Hong Kong. In 1971, with his family, he immigrated to Canada. In the first five years, he was selling residential houses, and his construction company built single family homes in Richmond and Vancouver. In 1979, with his wife Rita, he went to Hong Kong to manage and operate their family business. He retired in 1997 and returned to Vancouver where he had been a commercial real estate developer for many years. In 1998 and 1999, by provincial appointment, he served as a member of the Property Assessment Appeal Panel. He is a life member of the United Chinese Community Enrichment Services Society. He is a Life Honorary President of the Vancouver Tsung Tsin (Hakka) Association. In May and June 2007, he inspired his friends and acquaintances in Vancouver Yaletown to form a new Lions club to serve the community. Within four weeks, he personally signed up 31 charter members, all of whom are young professionals and business persons, for the formation of Vancouver Yaletown Lions Club.
Henry and Rita have been happily married for 46 years and have a daughter
and two grandchildren. Henry and Rita enjoy stretching exercise and
swimming. |
